Ethical Considerations for EBP

The completion of these ethics assignments has mostly just solidified my assumptions about the nurse’s ethical role, rather than changing them. I think it is important for nurses to understood the historical evolution and principles of research ethics because this history shows the progression and development of the ethical practice we have today. Nurses can understand how and why these ethical principles have come to have such an important role in the nursing practice. History consists of errors and corrections, which gives us the ability to not repeat ethical mistakes. This allows us to move forward with ethical research, promoting the best outcome for our patients both as participants and as recipients of evidence based care. Throughout this course, I have learned that there is a lot of depth to the ethical conduct of research and development of evidence-based practices. I have realized that both ethical conduct of research and evidence-based practices are intertwined – you cannot have one without the other.
